Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey, has been re-elected to serve a second term as vice president of the Regional Conference on Social Development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The election took place on Thursday during the sixth session of the conference, convened by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Brasília, Brazil.

Barbados joins Ecuador, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Panama, Paraguay, and Uruguay as part of the presiding officers, under the chairmanship of Brazil.

This recognition comes immediately after Minister Humphrey addressed a panel on emerging challenges for inclusive social development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In a presentation that drew regional attention, Humphrey outlined how Barbados is boldly reshaping its social protection and labour systems to meet 21st-century demands.
