Princess Margaret Secondary School closed on Wednesday

There will be no school at Princess Margaret Secondary tomorrow, Wednesday, as education officials move to address concerns raised by teachers about their readiness to begin the new term.

Deputy Chief Education Officer Julia Beckles said the decision followed a site visit and discussions with the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) and staff at the school.

“Having spoken with both our partners in the union and with our teachers, we are satisfied that the teachers’ concerns do need to be addressed,” Beckles said. “We are going to ask our students to remain at home tomorrow to allow our teachers the day… to complete their preparation for school.”

She explained that although teachers had a planning week, it was held off-site due to ongoing renovations, and they were only able to access the plant from Monday. Classes were held today, though some teachers were in meetings. (SM)
