Thief but no burglar, says accused

A 33-year-old man entered mixed pleas when he appeared in court on Monday, admitting to theft but denying a charge of burglary.

Akil Raheem Walcott, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Manila Renee to stealing seven bales of corn curls from the West India Biscuit Company (WIBISCO) on February 20.

He denied that between December 25 and 29, 2025, he trespassed on the Boatyard Bar and Restaurant and stole eight bags of chicken parts valued at $1 440 and 500 fish valued at $2 500 from the business.

After the prosecution objected to bail due to his lack of a fixed address, Walcott, who has two previous convictions, was remanded to Dodds Prison.

He will return to court on March 23 for sentencing on the theft charge.
