City dweller, 69, admits to stealing food hamper

A 69-year-old City resident has been placed on a six-month bond to keep the peace after admitting to stealing a food hamper from outside a bathroom at the Salvation Army on Holy Thursday.

 

Shirlon McDonald Dowell, who lives in Bedford Lane, admitted to the theft of a $50 hamper belonging to Corey Best on April 8, when he was brought to the No. 1 District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court before acting Chief Magistrate Douglas Frederick.

 

Prosecutor Sergeant Victoria Leacock told the court that Best collected a hamper from the Salvation Army, as these are usually disbursed the day before Good Friday. While there, the complainant went to the bathroom, hanging the hamper on the doorknob outside the cubicle, But when he exited, it was gone. CCTV footage was checked and revealed Dowell taking the hamper.

 

Dowell was informed that if he breached the bond, he would spend one month behind bars.
