Education Local News Press Releases BUT raises no objection to ministry’s school closure plan Barbados Today09/05/20260132 views President of the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT), Rudy Lovell. The Barbados Union of Teachers has indicated it has no fundamental objection to the Ministry of Education’s decision to allow the early closure of select primary schools to facilitate infrastructural upgrades during the summer. In a statement, the union said it has long advocated for improved school facilities and, therefore, supports a comprehensive upgrade programme aimed at enhancing the teaching and learning environment for both students and staff. However, the union noted that its concern would arise only if the scheduled works are not completed by the end of the summer vacation, resulting in disruption to the normal reopening of schools and the delivery of instruction at the start of the new academic year.
