Community service for cannabis

A District ‘A’ Magistrate today sentenced an Eden Lodge man to 160 hours of community service on a drug charge.

When Michael Eugene Kareem Spooner, 26, of Quarry Road saw police patrolling in the community on May 11, he ran off clutching his pocket. He was quickly apprehended and searched, where 21 small freezer bags were found containing cannabis.

“I got that to smoke,” Spooner told police at the time he was detained.

Sergeant Edwin Pinder told Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant the illegal drug weighed 6.22 grammes.

Spooner, who has no previous criminal record, has been ordered to return on August 9 to update the magistrate on his service.
