Weed in the fridge costs cool cash

Possession of a traffickable amount of marijuana has cost a 30-year-old salesman $1,500 over the next two months.

The fine was imposed on Quamie Kareem Cox, of Arsensal Road, Jackson, St Michael today after he pleaded guilty to charges of possession, possession with intent to supply and possession with intent to traffic the illicit substance.

Sergeant Edwin Pinder told Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant that two jars, carrying 69.2 grammes of cannabis, were recovered from a fridge in his backyard when police executed a search warrant at this house on May 12.

When asked to account for the substance, Cox said: “This is mine, officer”.

If Cox fails to pay the sum imposed on the trafficking charge he will spend four months in prison. Cox must return to the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on July 16 to show proof of payment.

He was reprimanded and discharged on the other two offences.
