Court Burglar runs out of chances, gets year in jail Barbados Today11/05/20210329 views Dequan Kareem Bobb ran out of chances when he appeared Monday before a District ‘A’ magistrate for not keeping a promise to stay out of trouble. The 24-year-old of Garden Land, Country Road, St Michael was sentenced to one year in prison for two acts of burglary. Last September, Magistrate Manila Renee placed Bobb on an 18-month bond to keep the peace and be on good behaviour. The penalty for the bond was $500 in one week or two days in prison. But within that time, he was back before another magistrate who gave him a chance to get over his drug habit at Verdun House but the court heard he squandered that opportunity by being expelled over a fracas with another client. Bobb said: “I get discharged from Verdun House, I didn’t walk out because me and another fellow get in a bit of something. I didn’t walk out.” The explanation came after he pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing a $379 tent; four bags of sand worth $49.24 and two hoses worth $136.16 belonging to Roger Husbands between April 26 and 27. Bobb also admitted that he was the one who entered H.O.A. Auto Services between February 15 and May 5 and stole a vehicle diagnostic tool worth $2,000; two angle grinders worth $600; an injector removal kit worth $1,000; and an injector sealing kit worth $300 property of Hayden Alleyne. Police Constable Kenmore Phillips told Magistrate Renee the businessmen secured their establishments on the first date and when they returned realized that the items were missing. In both cases, Bobb was seen on CCTV taking the items and leaving. None of the property was recovered, the prosecutor disclosed. “You can’t make a mockery of the system,” Magistrate Renee told Bobb, who has previous convictions. “I gave you a chance and another court gave you a chance. I did give you a chance.” The one-year sentences on the burglary charges are to run concurrently.
