Court Convicted thief sentenced to 24 months at Dodds Barbados Today02/06/20210120 views A burglar has been sentenced to 24 months at Her Majesty’s Prison Dodds for committing five offences. Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes handed down the sentence on Albert Montebren Hinds, of Philips Road, St Stephen Hill, St Michael in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court. Magistrate Weeks first imposed a 12-month sentence on Hinds for entering the house of Noel Hunte between April 6 and 7 and stealing two cellular phones totaling $2 800; a spanner set worth $140; a $200 drill and $150 in cash. Hunte placed the devices in his study on April 6 but could not find them the following day despite searching his entire house. It was during that search that he discovered that the other items, including the money which was in his pants pocket, were also missing. Police, acting on information, executed a search warrant at Hinds’ residence and he was later taken into custody. None of the property was recovered. He received another 12-month sentence to run concurrently to the first for burglarizing SJ Health Bakery between April 4 and 5 when he entered as a trespasser and stole $52 in cash belonging to Samuel Clarke. The establishment was closed but when the complainant returned the following day the storeroom had been broken into and the money was missing. Hunte told police he had used the money to buy “food stuff”. The convicted man will also spend a further six months in prison for stealing a $200 perfume, a $25 flash drive and $20 cash from a route taxi between May 15 and 16. The items belonged to Lawrence Brewster. The sentence will run consecutively to any other sentences. Forde admitted to the crime as police investigated his link to other offences. Forde got another six-month, consecutive sentence for stealing a $450 drill and drill bits worth $200 belonging to Chawn Hinds between February 25 and March 31. The complainant secured the tools in the back of his truck. When he returned they were missing. He did not report the matter to police but Forde gave himself up. Sergeant Victoria Taitt prosecuted the case while Forde represented himself.
