Jamal Richard Gulstone, of Cane Garden, St Thomas has until November 29 to pay the court $1 500 for breaching the island’s COVID-19 curfew and another $1 500 in compensation for resisting a police officer in the execution of his duty. Gulstone will spend 90 days in prison if the monies are not paid. He was also facing a cannabis possession charge but was reprimanded and discharged on that count when Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes sentenced him. Sergeant Victoria Taitt told the court that lawmen were on patrol along Canewood Road, St Michael on August 6 around 11:40 p.m. when they saw Gulstone walking. Police stopped and asked him why he was on the road after curfew hours. The prosecutor said he looked in the direction of the police and ran holding his pockets. The police gave chase and held him. He struggled but was subdued. A search of his pockets revealed two grease-proof wrappings containing a loose quantity of vegetable matter that was determined to be cannabis.
