Court Theft ‘for daughter’s birthday’ fails to impress court Barbados Today19/08/2021058 views A man’s explanation that he stole liquor in an effort to buy a birthday gift for his daughter did not sit well with Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes. As a result, Chevon Kimar Trotman was remanded to HMP Dodds when he appeared in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court. Trotman, a 36-year-old car washer with no fixed place of abode, pleaded guilty to stealing 11 bottles of alcoholic beverages valued $485 and one garbage bin belonging to Cool Runnings Catamaran Cruises. The court heard that the owner of Cool Runnings realized the items were missing and reported the matter to police who, acting on a tip, went to a location where they found Trotman with the stolen items. In asking the court for leniency, the thief admitted that he had made a mistake and explained that he stole the items to buy something for his daughter’s birthday. But the Chief Magistrate remanded him until August 27 when he will be sentenced.
