Thief gets a second chance to clean up act

A confessed thief was given a three-month sentence suspended for nine months, as the chief magistrate sought to give him a chance to buck up and seek honest work.

Chief Magistrate Ian Weekes imposed the sentence on Ackeem Carlos Harewood, of No.1 Fairview, Christ Church on Thursday when he appeared before him.

He had pleaded guilty to stealing a bag, a cellular phone, $100 cash, two chargers, a camera, two pairs of sunglasses, a pair of headphones, and a wallet. The items which were stolen on August 17 and worth $1,000 belonged to Kamal Wright.

“I learn my lesson,”  Harewood told Weekes in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court. “My mindset is to find a job. I went up the road [prison] and it just changed my mindset,”

The Chief Magistrate also urged the convicted man to get his act together. “Do something with yourself, step up,” he told Harewood.
