Judge sending accused to Dodds on his return from St Vincentian prison

One of three St Michael men accused of committing a robbery in Barbados is currently locked up in St Vincent.

And when Jeffrey Rudolph Alleyne is returned to the island next month he will find himself behind bars at HMP Dodds.

Madame Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell signalled her intention to remand Alleyne when his case came up in the No. 4 Supreme Court.

Alleyne, of Hinkson Gap, Baxter’s Road along with Shane Anderson Daisley of Passage Gardens, Passage Road and Marcus Dwayne Chapman of No. 8 Watermill Place, Bayville, all of St Michael, are charged with robbing Renaldo Clarke of $5600 worth in jewellery and cash on May 12, 2006.

Attorney-at-law Arthur Holder told the court that Alleyne had been incarcerated in St Vincent and sentenced to a month in prison.

He said he expected his client to return to Barbados early next month.

‘My client is incarcerated in St Vincent…well and truly locked up,” Holder told the court. “I believe he should be back here sometime in December because he was given a month on November 8.”

Justice Smith-Bovell responded, “Well and truly locked up when he returns here too. We will lodge something at the airport so that when he arrives there he will be taken straight to Dodds.”

His surety also complained to the court that she could not locate Alleyne despite attempts to do so.

“I relieve you of your responsibility as a surety, thank you very much. I wish more sureties were like you and you are free to go. You are absolved of any responsibility for Mr Alleyne,” Justice Smith-Bovell said before issuing a warrant of arrest for Alleyne.

Crown Counsel Keith Robertson is appearing on behalf of the Crown.

The judge also set February 28 as the trial date for the case to commence.
