Power outages affect water supply in north

The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) says customers in northern parishes may continue to be impacted by water outages triggered by intermittent power cuts that occurred on Sunday evening and today.

According to the BWA, while the Barbados Light & Power (BLPC) addressed the issue yesterday evening and stations were put back online, another series of outages occurred this morning.

As a result, the BWA said customers in some districts will be affected by low water pressure or water outages.

The areas include:

St. Joseph:

Joe’s River, Gaggs Hill, Cleavers Hill, St. Elizabeth New Road, St. Elizabeth Village, Bathsheba, Hillswick Village and surrounding areas.

St. John:

Foster Hall and surrounding districts.

St. Peter:

The Rock, Mile and a Quarter, Mount Brevitor, Maynards, Rose Hill, Ashton Hall, Collins Tenantry, Date Tree Hill, The Baltic, The Risk, Boscobelle and surrounding areas.

St. Lucy:

Alleynedale Village, Benthams, Pickering, Durhams, Jemmotts, Chance Hall, Mount View, Glendolough Road, Josey Hill, Peterses, Rock Hall, Lamberts, Mount Gay, Oxford, Church Hill, Luke Hill, Alexandria, Cave Hill, Graveyard Road, Air View Road and surrounding districts.

The BWA also advised that the BLPC is carrying out work near the Authority’s Hampton Station in St. Philip. This resulted in a short power outage but the BWA said power has been transferred to its generators until the BLPC’s work is completed.

The Authority, however, advises customers at the higher elevations in some St. Philip and Christ Church districts that their water supply may be affected in the interim.

The BWA says water tankers will be dispatched to assist residents in the affected districts as a temporary measure while all systems recharge.
