Children in insolation for COVID-19 were treated to kite-flying over the Easter weekend, through Variety – The Children’s Charity. A donation of 14 kites was made to Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Corey Forde last Thursday for the children in tertiary care at Harrison’s Point.

Dr. Forde expressed his gratitude for the kites presented, which he said would provide an absolute thrill for the children.

“Easter is certainly a period of giving and sharing and during this difficult period of COVID, Variety has stepped in to help us at Harrison’s Point as we create a period of activities for all the residents at the facilities. They have donated a variety of beautiful kites and on presentation of these kites I am absolutely sure that the children are going to be thrilled by this,” Dr. Forde said last week.

It was important for Variety to bring smiles to the faces of children at Harrison’s Point, and make the weekend lighter with the Bajan pastime.

“This donation of kites to the children by Variety is a small gesture that can make a difference to these children and is in keeping with the work of Variety worldwide,” said Cheryl Lady Forde. Lady Forde is one of the Trustees of Variety – The Children’s Charity and a founding member of the Barbados Chapter.

“Apart from the illness which is associated with COVID-19, there are serious psychological effects that persons may have. It is more than welcomed to have Variety step in and provide what I think would be a most valuable donation to the kids at the facility. It is really timely,” he explained.

Variety continues to find ways to be impactful despite COVID-19. The charity is committed to the wellbeing of Barbadian children and is currently running a new Friend Request campaign to help make more cheerful moments like this possible.

“I think that anything that any person out there across the country – clubs, societies, associations – can do to assist us in all aspects at the isolation centre is important and today [Thursday] I want to thank Lady Forde and all of those members of Variety for stepping in with very short notice to provide a most valuable donation,” added Dr. Forde.

“Thank you on behalf of the Board of Management of the QEH and the Chairman of the QEH; this donation which will go a long way towards improving the mental aspects of the children at the facility,” Dr. Forde said.(PR)
