Local News Dems in jab at Govt’s COVID-19 leadership by Randy Bennett 02/09/2021 written by Randy Bennett 02/09/2021 2 min read A+A- Reset Pharmacist Paul Gibson Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 186 The Democratic Labour Party’s spokesperson on health Paul Gibson, has called for decisive leadership from Government in the wake of the COVID-19 surge that is being driven by the Delta variant. Gibson believes there is a need for the Mia Mottley administration to adopt a different approach in fighting the highly infectious and contagious variant. The number of COVID-19 infections has risen sharply, leading Government to announce several new directives, including reducing the number of people allowed at church services and banning indoor sports. Just a few days ago, Gibson called on Government to be more transparent in its handling of the outbreak. “Obviously the DLP believes that there needs to be a change in the approach and the decision making regarding the virus. The virus continues to mutate and is wreaking havoc on our economy, on our social existence, and as we know it, it is wreaking havoc on the souls of our people,” Gibson said via a press statement. “We need to protect ourselves, we need to educate ourselves regarding the virus, we need leadership in respect to how we approach and manage this pandemic. We need to protect the lives of young children and adults. Strengthening our immune system is also a part of this defense and is a critical part in getting back to normalcy. “This is achieved of course by eating properly but we know that food and its high cost is currently a major issue but more vegetables and supplements and things of this nature would enhance our immune systems, but we also need to assist in protecting our immune systems by becoming vaccinated. “At the end of the day this pandemic, this Delta virus, this variant and its control is calling for good leadership, decisive leadership. That’s what we as Barbadians are asking for.” (RB) Randy Bennett You may also like Small craft advisory extended as windy conditions persist 13/06/2025 Barbados opens second phase of battery storage project to unlock grid 13/06/2025 Afrofusion Global Superstar Tyla To Headline Tipsy Music Festival 2025 In Barbados! 13/06/2025
