Shanelle Dodson is the owner of Highlighted Beauty by Shan. The company which was started five months ago recently relocated to the JB Simpson Complex at Six Roads, St Phillip.

The former student of the Louis Lynch Secondary School has a keen interest for beauty and aesthetics and decided after resigning from her full-time job in 2018 that she wanted to become an entrepreneur.

“I have a keen interest and love for beauty and aesthetics and decided sometime after leaving my full-time Human Resource employment in 2018 that I wanted to enter the world of entrepreneurship.

“Whilst employed I was also freelancing where I provided beauty services, mainly in makeup artistry that is where my entrepreneurial life began. I was led to open my Spa based on a vision I had and the manifestation of that vision daily.

“The opportunity arose on enquiring about space in the new complex which further allowed me to expand the services beyond what I was offering in my home-based studio,” she said.

Dodson who currently has an independence special on her page said that since opening her business she has been having frequent promotions for her valued customers.

“I have been having monthly promotions with a different offer every month. However, generally around seasons, holidays etc. people tend to pay attention and give themselves ‘treats’ or indulge in self-care.

“One of the major highlights of my business thus far would be seeing my vision realized and the tremendous response received on our grand opening day. We had an excitingly fully booked day and the support continued throughout that first month,” she said.

The owner of Highlighted Beauty by Shan who has a Masters Degree in Human Resource Management said that since relocating she has been receiving tremendous response with veteran businesswoman Julie Dash of Hannah Properties visiting her store and giving her a tremendous review.

“My experience in St. Philip so far has been good and we look forward to the holidays with sweet surprises in store. I am happy to be given the opportunity to be in a very good location.

“My team and I did outreach within some St. Philip communities naming Crane, Oldbury, Mount Pleasant, Emerald Park and the Airport. Persons we interacted with provided feedback and stated they were happy to have a Day Spa in St. Philip.

She added: “In fact, we had an excellent review from Julie Dash who came to our spa and thoroughly enjoyed the service she received. We are a full-service luxury day spa offering a variety of services and treatments in Facials, Advanced Facials such as Microdermabrasion, Massages, Body Treatments (Scrubs), Pedicures, Manicures, Hair Removal, Nail Enhancements and Gel Extensions, Bridal Makeup and we’re still looking to add to our existing menu,” she said.

Dodson said that persons come to her spa over other spas on island due to her excellent customer service.

“At Highlighted Beauty by Shan we value offering superior customer service, and professional standards by using professional products and giving our customers an overall exceptional experience.

“Our clients choose to relax and revitalise with us because of the attention we pay to giving our guests and or clients a superior service.

“The Spa can be found on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Google. While we are a full spa service, I would say that we specialise in facials. The face is an area where most women have insecurities and are self-conscious about. Skin issues such as acne and scarring are a popular concern among many,” she said.

Dodson said that her team has been ensuring customers’ safety from COVID-19 by ensuring that they sanitize as well as conduct temperature checks on entry.

“My team and I take COVD-19 very seriously in the spa. We space appointments, so there’s hardly more than two clients being serviced in the spa at the same time.

We sanitize and do temperature checks on entry and record contact tracing information.

Public areas, chairs, tables, door handles, reception desk, bathrooms are cleaned and sanitised after each person and
bed linens and towels are also changed after each person,” she said.

Dodson who described herself as multifaceted said that she is pleased and thankful with the amount of repeat business that she has received in the five months she has been operating her business. She especially would like to thank her family and friends for their unwavering support.
