The West Indies men’s team is worthy of praise for once more beating the Poms in our backyard. We have had some excellent performances from the likes of captain Brathwaite, Mayers in the only game he played, Seales and of course Josh Da Silva.

However, there is some deadweight in the side that the selectors must give serious consideration to shedding. Campbell is not a Test opener.

He cannot play short bowling aimed from his shoulders upwards and thus he is not even an opener. Happy Test retirement son.

Shane Dowrich left a tour and came home for reasons still unknown and Josh Da Silva has grabbed the opportunity to replace him with both hands. Barring injury or a shift in the batting order and wicketkeeper responsibility, I do not see Dowrich back in this Test side in any hurry, if ever. Happy Test retirement son.

You did that.

Shamarh Brooks is the modern-day equivalent of Carl Hooper, as pretty as can be in the middle but does not last long enough for us to enjoy the spectacle.

He should be given a spell out of the team. Permaul is not Test material – end of reference. Room need to made to give the likes of Raymon Reifer, Keacy Carty an opportunity.

There is a youngster in Barbados called Kevin Wickham who has not yet played for the senior Barbados team. He should be fast-tracked into the Barbados side. He is a special talent.

The West Indies Women’s team have made the World Cup semifinals in unconvincing fashion and must now grabbed this fortuitous opportunity with both hands.

The stars must shine for West Indies to stand any chance of competing against the mighty Aussie women. Dottin, Matthews and Taylor must all make runs if we are to beat the Aussies. West Indies are the massive underdogs with nothing to lose. So, they should play with freedom but not gay abandon.
