Kiwanis Club of Barbados South is celebrating 32 years under the theme: 32 years as a team. Since last month the club has been staging a wide range of activities to celebrate its achievements.
President of the Club Deanzer Roberts said to celebrate the club’s anniversary they started by worshipping at The St Barnabas Anglican Church.
“To celebrate our 32nd anniversary we worshipped at St. Barnabas Anglican Church on Sunday March 27th, on Monday we featured on our social media pages several persons and events that we did throughout the years.
“On the morning of Tuesday March 29th we made a presentation to the Paediatric Department of The Queen Elizabeth Hospital with towels and washcloths to assist more than 20 mothers. That project was undertaken by the Youth Services Committee chaired by Assistant District Administrator Zelma Daisley.
“Later that night we had our membership drive during our weekly fellowship meeting. On Wednesday we made a monetary donation to the National Council on Substance Abuse as well as a hamper for one of their clients.
“We used the week as well to share with our co-workers and friends more about the club, with the intent to have them learn more and in doing so become members,” she said.
Roberts said that initially there were two clubs Kiwanis Club of Bridgetown and Kiwanis North Club. It became evident that there was a need for representation in the South and several persons were invited to form a new club which was then called Kiwanis Club of Barbados South.
“Since its inception the club has grown over the years as the members continue to work and inspire one another, they are always eager to embrace projects and bring in additional persons to join the club.
“Our club is well organiSed, and we wear our K. I am happy to lead this organiSation and uphold the standards that I met when I joined,” she said.
Roberts said that since joining the organisation she has worked every administrative year as the Chairperson of the Public Relations and Marketing Committee.
The President of Kiwanis Club of Barbados South said that she intends to surprise the members of the organization who have given their service for well over a decade.
“I really want to honour those members who have given more than 15 years and more of service to the organization. Right now, the plan is still in the pipeline, but I believe they must be lauded for their hard work and sacrifice,” she said.
Roberts said that over the 32 years the organisation has and still continues with a number of initiatives, such as the antenatal lecture series, nutritional; camp, transition seminar, independence hampers, Sunday food deliveries, access ramps, assisting with the beautification of government day nurseries and much more. She noted that the organisation seeks to give back to the community to build the Barbados that they want to leave behind. (Write Right PR Services)
