Young award-winning Barbadian singer-songwriter Trinity Clarke continues to fly the Barbados flag high in all her endeavours.
Her latest pursuit sees her enrolled in the Music Conservatory programme on scholarship in the United States at Montverde Academy, an esteemed private boarding school.
Barbados TODAY recently caught up with the young talent, who said that she is excited about the program, which fosters, encourages, and educates young musicians.
The programme includes vocal music, instrumental string music, piano, and theatre arts.
With a rigorous timetable of French, World History, Algebra II, English II Honours, Environmental Science Honours in the morning segment, and music faculty classes in the evening, Trinity sees this new experience as the perfect opportunity to catapult her music career to the next level.
As such, she intends to make the best of her time at her new school — she hopes to follow in her mother Kareen’s footsteps and attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music.
“I have settled in nicely; the staff were very welcoming and were eagerly awaiting the Bajan girl. It was really touching.
“Dorm life is really cool . . . I even got my own locker. And I love my roommate, who is a star athlete from Bermuda.
I have the Barbados flag over my bed. The school is very diverse with its students from all over the world, which gives me butterflies because it tells me that even an island girl can live in the big world away from home,” she shared.
Just off a whirlwind Crop Over season where she placed second in the soca category at the Scotiabank Junior Monarch Competition, Trinity praised the platform as a developmental experience that did wonders for her confidence.
“Soca is an artform on its own; it’s not for the weak nor unhealthy because I had to work hard, keep fit, remember dance steps, keep practising, eat healthily, and still get adequate rest.
Soca awakened something in me, and I love the vibe that live music brings. Even though it was fun, it’s an experience that really kept me on my toes, and I will do it all over again next year,” she told Barbados TODAY.
Humbled by this opportunity, Trinity explained that even though there were times when she and her mother started to feel disheartened, they kept praying.
“I would like to thank God firstly for opening this door for me and making it possible for me
to do well.
“I want to thank also the Prime Minister, The Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment, The Committee of the Arts and Sport Promotion Fund, The NCF, Eden Lodge Youth Charitable Trust, CGI Insurance, and family and friends. I am so very thankful for their confidence in me,” she shared.
Trinity has two songs in the pipeline to be released soon — her soca song Vybzz and another single, I Just Wanna Thank You, Lord.
“It is my song of gratitude to the Lord who has been so faithful to me. I am so thankful and pledge to do credit to my nation and the Kingdom of God.”
