A flash flood warning is in effect in Barbados until 10 a.m. today
An alert message was issued by the Barbados Meteorological Services at 6 a.m. Sunday 18th September 2022 and will be terminated at 10 a.m. Sunday 18th September 2022 or sooner if conditions warrant.
A flash flood warning is issued when rapid flooding due to heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than six hours) is occurring or is imminent in the warning area.
The Met office release stated:
Hazard Info:
Unstable conditions trailing Tropical Storm Fiona continue to affect the island.
Rainfall accumulations near 100 mm (four inches) have been observed across some sections of the island overnight.
At present, although most of the heavy shower activity has weakened, any further shower activity could result in flooding due to the already saturated nature of the soils.
Key Message:
Residents and visitors should note that the following impacts are imminent during this forecast period:
โ€ข Significant runoff from higher elevations.
โ€ข Significant soil erosion is likely on exposed or scarred land surfaces.
โ€ข Large water settlements on roads and fields.
โ€ข Significant adjustments to water levels of existing water bodies (ponds etc.).
โ€ข Significant delays on traffic routes with some roads possibly impassable.
โ€ข Large objects or debris from higher elevations may also become embedded within fast-moving water flows.
โ€ข Significant flooding at the foot of hillsides and coastal roads is possible. (PR)
