The following day, January 10, Ambassador Walcott met with high-level officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, including Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Shirley Aguilar Barrera. During the meeting, they discussed proposed areas of cooperation between Barbados and Guatemala, such as education, tourism, trade, sports, and culture. The Guatemalan officials announced the award of two scholarships for Barbadian diplomats to attend the Diplomatic Academy of Guatemala and also offered to donate several plants to the National Botanical Gardens. Ambassador Walcott thanked the Guatemalan authorities on behalf of the Government and the people of Barbados. While in Guatemala, Mr. Walcott also met with Barbados’ Honorary Consul, Mario Permuth, and Honorary Vice Consul Igal Permuth, to discuss matters relating to the advancement of Barbados’ interests in Guatemala.
