Defence counsel Sian Lange, who represents Bynoe in association with King’s Counsel Andrew Pilgrim, made the official request before Madam Justice Michelle Weekes on Wednesday as the process for re-sentencing Bynoe continued in the No. 5 Supreme Court. Bynoe, of Headley’s Land, Bank Hall, St Michael, was one of two men who firebombed the Campus Trendz store in Tudor Street, The City, on September 3, 2010, after robbing it, causing a fire that claimed the lives of six young women – Shanna Griffith, Kelly-Ann Welch, Pearl Cornelius, Kellishaw Olivierre, Nikita Belgrave and Tiffany Harding. In June 2022, the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), Barbados’ highest appellate court, upheld Bynoe’s 2016 conviction but set aside his death sentence and ordered that the High Court resentence him. The matter in which Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Alliston Seale is representing the State continues on June 2. In the meantime, an officer from the Probation Department will compile victim impact statements to complete the pre-sentencing report which was previously ordered.
