New job opportunities for Bajans in UAE

By Sheria Brathwaite

A local recruitment firm is encouraging Barbadians to take advantage of the multiple employment opportunities offered abroad, particularly in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
In an interview with Barbados TODAY, chief executive officer of Trinity Recruitment Services Judeen Scantlebury said that as economies across the globe were reopening following the heightened phases of the COVID-19 pandemic, there were many employment possibilities for Barbadians to explore.
“The opportunities in the UAE are plentiful. We are looking for people to fill the corporate positions of managerial full-time staff right down to interns. We are looking for people in a variety of fields of work such as human resources, accounting, front office management and so on,” she said.
“For the corporate positions, the salaries are quite high because they are looking for talented people with ten to 15 years of experience, so the salaries will match their experience. A lot of people in this category are, oftentimes, settled to some extent in that they have their families and homes, but there are packages that will be in place, should they decide to relocate, to take care of their needs and allow them to bring their families with them.”
Scantlebury said there were also good packages for interns, with them getting a base monthly stipend of around US$400 per month.
“While the other positions are permanent, the interns’ duration will be six months to a year. Then for all positions, expenses such as living accommodation, transportation to and from work, meals within the designated accommodation properties and insurance will be covered,” she said.
The recruiter said the UAE was on a major development path and it needed various skill sets to reach its goal.
She urged Barbadians to take advantage of this opportunity.
“Where they are heading with job possibilities, I will advise anybody to give it a thought. Based on my research, within the next five to ten years the type of businesses operating in the UAE are going to exceed a lot of expectations,” Scantlebury said.
“The UAE will explode with possibilities because the rulers are pumping a lot of money to make them the ‘new world’ in terms of technology, business and investment. The city Neom is being developed with hotels and resorts going up and within the desert, Dubai is doing the same thing, as well as Qatar. So within that region alone, there is a lot going on and based on what I’ve been informed from colleagues there, jobs are at everyone’s fingertips.
“Yes, it will be a change of scenery and it will take time to adapt but the possibilities right now are there for people looking for a new challenge, looking for something different to explore and get international experience,” she added.
Scantlebury said the recruitment process was going well thus far.
The CEO of Trinity Recruitment Services also gave an update as it relates to the cruise ship sector.
She said she was working with the Carnival cruise line as they needed to fill positions on two vessels.
Scantlebury added that there were firms looking to set up in Barbados and there were about 300 open positions.
She also announced that she was expanding her business by partnering with a company in Asia with close ties to hospitality universities and colleges.
Through that partnership, she will be able to source candidates from China, Thailand, Nepal, Malaysia, Burma and Indonesia.
