2024 Senior Games open to international athletes

Barbados’ senior athletes will compete against some of the world’s best at the 2024 National Senior Games.

Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey has confirmed that next year’s competition, which will run from May 18th until 20th, will be open to participants from outside of the island.

During the launch of the 2023 Games in March, coordinator Michael Jules revealed that plans were in the works to allow regional and international competitors to take part in next year’s Senior Games.

Speaking on the side lines of the re-launch of the National Assistance Board’s Lancaster hospice earlier this week, Humphrey said the Games, which will be held to coincide with Whitsuntide, would be expanded.

“Overseas competitors will be invited to participate in the 20th iteration of the Senior Games for a bigger and better event for all Barbadians to enjoy,” he said.

Humphrey also indicated the Usain Bolt Sports Complex would be the venue for the events once more, coinciding with Whit Sunday and Whit Monday.

Additionally, the Games will be making special efforts to enable competitors with disabilities.

The 2024 National Senior Games will see participants participating in 13 disciplines. (RB/PR)
