Television purchases again dominated Black Friday sales when Barbadians sought to take advantage of reduced prices from early in the morning. But there appeared not to be as much activity as in recent years.
When a Barbados TODAY team arrived at Courts’ Bridgetown location shortly after 9 a.m., Senior Marketing Manager at Unicomer Barbados Ltd, Ann-Marie King reported that shoppers came out for early deals.
“We had quite the buzz this morning with long lines outside our store here at Bridgetown, and thus far, as you can see, it’s a steady flow of persons into the store taking advantage of our timed offers which we would normally have throughout the day. But of course, our really great deals were first thing this morning from 7 a.m. through to 10 a.m.,” she explained.
King confirmed that televisions were the popular picks.
“We had an unbelievable run on our 50-inch TCL TVs and those were gone before 9. So we’ve been really pleased with the response to our TV specials for Black Friday,” she said.
Popular wholesale food and retail outlet Cost U Less also got a big response from shoppers looking to pick up televisions at sale prices.
According to Manager Marvin Raps reported it was a very busy morning.
“We opened at 6 o’clock this morning . .. [and have] been quite busy. Obviously, the item every year that is the most popular is the TVs. We have the luggage set on special – it’s been the best item – and then the coolers. Those are our top items right now,” he told Barbados TODAY.
“We’ve not had any issues with the customers; they’ve been loving the product and [the prices] we are selling them for. It’s working out very well.”
Meanwhile, Mark Clarke, Location Manager of Bridgetown Duty-Free, formerly Cave Shepherd, said while there had not been a significant bump in traffic at the location in the morning, shoppers had been eagerly participating in the store’s Black Friday competition, which runs until November 26, in which they enter a ‘Cash Cube’ to grab money.
