Only two Barbadians were among the 84 people who applied for the post of Chief Executive Officer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), according to Minister of Health and Wellness The Most Honourable Dr Jerome Walcott.

He made the disclosure as he led off debate on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Amendment) Bill, 2024, in the Senate this morning.

“Eighty-four persons applied for the post of CEO of the QEH . . . . Two Barbadians applied for that post – two out of the 84 – and both of them were deemed not suitably qualified . . . did not have the experience.

“The committee of the board went through the process – 84 go to 12. Then, I believe they . . . had selected six to be interviewed, but one person dropped out, and they interviewed five and then [came] to a selection. We have made the selection, so that process is on track,” Dr Walcott revealed. (FW)
