(ZM) Share FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 2.2K Several Barbados Under-19 cricketers got the opportunity of a lifetime yesterday when they were given some tips on American football by NFL linebacker Robert Okereke. Okereke, who plays for the New York Giants, was part of a youth clinic organised by the Barbados Tourism Management Inc (BTMI) in association with the New York Giants. The multi-year partnership will see players from the NFL team visit the island annually to host camps and educate young athletes about the sport. The clinic, which was held at the Maxwell Sports Club, Briar Hall, saw the cricketers engage in several American football drills, led by Okereke. “It has been good. They all watch the NFL and they know some of the famous players like Christian McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley, but it’s really just to see how coachable they are. Obviously, they are good cricket players and they love to compete and to come out here and have fun. They’re a good group of guys,” Okereke said. “I think the biggest thing for us is to emerge in the community. It’s good to see the island, good to meet the people and see the people in the community and how it works and see how we can be a helping hand and really educate ourselves.” You Might Be Interested In Pybus returns Holder is number two Ferdinand on the mend Okereke has also been enjoying the island: “I’m loving it. He said along with hosting the clinic, he was also excited to learn more about the island’s culture, including road tennis and cricket. “Sports is an international language and we all come together in love of play and spend time together. Flag football is a great game, American football is a great game and we enjoy sharing it and the love for it with the people that we meet,” Medley said.
