Forde blasts century to begin Elite second series

On a day where many games were affected by rain, Shamar Forde recorded a splendid century for ESA Field Pickwick against defending champions Wanderers in the second series of the 2025 Barbados Cricket Association Elite division three-day Championship on Saturday.

Playing on the Dayrells Road grounds, wicket keeper batsman Forde came to the crease with his team in trouble at 29 for 4 after losing two of their main batters, Antonio Morris and Kyle Hope for zero.

Forde and opener Craig Holder stood in a partnership of 127 before Holder was out caught for 67 in 77 balls. Forde batted for 124 balls and struck 11 fours and 6 sixes during his brilliant knock of 115.

Earlier in the innings, Wanderers opening fast bowler Kyron King bowled superbly as he grabbed 3 wickets to destroy the Pickwick top order. Leg spinner Isaiah Folkes also ended with 3 for 40 in his spell of 16 overs.

Pickwick fell 13 runs short of maximum batting points when they were bowled out for 287 in 55.3 overs. Wanderers are 10 for no loss at the close of play.

In a low scoring affair at Bank Hall, Empire ended day one in control as a total of fifteen wickets fell with the home team already securing first innings points over Bayview Hospital YMPC.

Barbados Pride bowlers’ Jomel Warrican and Shaquille Cumberbatch starred for the Blues as they shared seven wickets between them to bowl out the YMPC team for a paltry score of 111.

Cumberbatch got the ball rolling early with his medium fast bowling, ending with figures of 3 for 23 while the left arm spinner Warrican, cleaned up the lower order with 4 for 7 in just 4.4 overs.

In reply, Empire ended the day with a first innings lead of five runs, 117 for 5. Kevin Stoute top scored with 35 while Shamar Marshall has 3 wickets for 28 runs with his spin.

Newly promoted Windward cricket club are proving that they belong in the top tier as they are in a commanding position of 194 for 4 after 40 overs against SuperbBlendz Gladiola at the Rices playing field.

Batting at number 3, Captain Tennyson Roach led the way with an unbeaten 78 in 96 balls while opening batter Seth Agard continued his fine form with 63 in 90 balls.

Fast bowler Miguel Cummins was the most successful bowler for the home side with 2 for 44 in 10 overs.
