Police probe fatal truck incident on President Kennedy Drive

Investigations are continuing into a fatal road incident along President Kennedy Drive, St Michael, after a man was run over by a truck early Friday morning.

Police said the incident occurred around 7:15 a.m. in the vicinity of Kensington Oval, prompting the temporary closure of sections of the roadway and traffic diversions while forensic investigations were carried out.

Speaking to media personnel at the scene, Acting Inspector Ryan Brathwaite said police received a report from a female caller indicating that a man was lying beneath a truck.

“Police Operations Control received a report that there was a male lying under a truck at President Kennedy Drive, St Michael,” Brathwaite said. “Police responded to the area and saw the lifeless body of a male lying next to a truck.”

Preliminary investigations suggest the deceased had been travelling on the truck before disembarking.

“Our initial investigations have shown that the male was travelling on the truck when he disembarked to go along his way,” Brathwaite explained. “The truck subsequently moved off and collided with that male, and as a result, he succumbed to injuries here at the scene.”

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending notification of relatives.

Brathwaite said the road was cordoned off from the area of Westbury Road, with traffic diverted.

“Vehicles travelling from the upper section of President Kennedy Drive and Eagle Hall into President Kennedy Drive were diverted at the stop lights onto Westbury Road,” he said.

Forensic officers are continuing investigations to determine the cause of the incident.

Police are also appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the collision or have relevant information to come forward.

“Anyone who may have been in the area at the time and wishes to assist is asked to contact the Central Police Station at 430-7242 or 430-7246,” Brathwaite added.
