Fear continues to grip residents of St Lucy following a shooting on March 22 that left one man dead and several others injured during a community karaoke event.

ย

Residents remain guarded after the incident, which occurred around 10.50 pm. a week ago on Sunday night, when a dark-coloured car drove by and fired several gunshots.

ย

Nine people were injured and taken to medical facilities for urgent treatment, while one man died as a result of his injuries.

ย

When Barbados TODAY visited Fryers Well, Checker Hall, only a few people were outdoors, and most people were reluctant to speak.

ย

One woman, who asked not to be named, said that although she feels comfortable in her home, the event remains a sensitive subject as she knew Romario Archer well.

ย

โ€œIt was still affecting me in that type of way, and some people who got injured, I know them personally. It was a good thing going on, you know. I could stand at home, and I could hear the karaoke over there, and then I fell asleep, got up with this thing. I didnโ€™t know that it was shots.โ€ย ย

ย

The shooting had cast a shadow over the community: โ€œIt felt uneasy for a couple of days, but things are very quiet. You know, most people donโ€™t lime as usual.โ€ย ย

ย

The resident said there has been heightened security in the area.ย ย

ย

โ€œIโ€™m still a little bit uneasy, but itโ€™s home. We got security guys, really just around the area around the house. I donโ€™t know how other people feel, but right now, I think it isnโ€™t easy; weโ€™re not settled yet.โ€ย ย

ย

Another resident, Loey Greaves, whose house was struck by gunfire that night, said he remains frightened.ย

ย

โ€œI feel frightened. Iโ€™m fearful, thatโ€™s the truth. It canโ€™t be none of these things happening round here and not be fearful. Barbados is gone.โ€ย ย

ย

ย โ€œIโ€™m not coming here to tell you Iโ€™m not fearful, Iโ€™m very fearful.โ€

ย

Police have told Barbados TODAY that investigations are still ongoing and that updates will be provided as new information becomes available.ย ย ย
