World Cup coverage boost

Football fans around the Caribbean are being assured of extensive coverage of the upcoming FIFA Football World Cup after Rush Sports secured the broadcast rights for selected markets.

Speaking during an interview with Barbados TODAY, CEO of Rush Sports Michael Look Tong revealed they have a rights package that includes 13 markets in the region.

“Our portfolio includes Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados, St Vincent and the  Grenadines, Bonaire, Anguilla, Saint Kitts, Montserrat, Dominica, Belize, Turks, British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands, ” he noted.

Look Tong described the company’s securing of the rights as significant, given the FIFA World Cup is the largest sporting event globally.

“So, you know us having this property and making it available to viewers and fans in these territories in the Caribbean is pretty significant. 

“We do other big things too. As you may know, we just had the Champions League final last Saturday as well as the IPL final which was on Sunday,” he said.

As a part of the rights package, fans will have access to all 104 games of the competition live, including encounters that are played at the same time, except in the latter section of the group stage.

“So because we have multiple channels, people have the ability to watch and flick between one game and the next,” Look Tong noted.

Additionally Rush Sports’ innovative partnerships with cinemas around the region is set to continue during the World Cup.

“We’ll be airing matches in a number of the cinemas in various islands. So we are talking to cinemas in Jamaica, Barbados, as well as in Trinidad and they are finalising which matches they want to show and they will be available in the cinemas, which is a whole different experience, as you can imagine. 

“We actually just did it for the Champions League on Saturday, and we had rave reviews in all three of those markets,” he concluded.
