Co-ordinator of the 13th June 1980 Movement, Lalu Hanuman, explained that the picket is in protest against “the illegal and immoral blockade placed on Cuba by the US, and most recently, on its ability to import fuel to keep hospitals, educational establishments, and basic services functioning.” Hanuman said Cuba is facing dire consequences resulting in the deaths of people awaiting urgent operations and rising infant mortality.
