Wales gearing up for CFU Club Shield

Multiple-time Barbados Football Association Premier League champions Weymouth Wales have arrived in Trinidad and begun preparations for the Caribbean Football Union Club Shield tournament.

Wales, who finished as runners-up in last year’s competition, are looking to improve on that performance after losing 3-2 to Moca FC in the final at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

That result saw them qualifying for the CONCACAF Caribbean Cup, where they won two of their four games to finish third in Group B.

Speaking during the team’s opening training session, coach Asquith Howell said Wales hope to improve on both performances in 2026.

“We’re here to go a little step further than what we did last year, so we’re looking to achieve even greater things. I think most of the guys are healthy, and I think after settling we’ll be a little bit more focused in reference to doing the job that we came here to do.

“Our first mission is to go to the next step, which is the Caribbean Cup, 

so we need to qualify from this phase. We begin against the team from Aruba and from there on we will see how things go,”he said.
