St James man admits firearm offence

A 23-year-old St James man who admitted possessing a high-powered firearm declined to tell police how he obtained it or why he had it when questioned following his arrest.

Kadeem Antonio Sealy, 23, of Taylor’s Gap, Weston, appeared in the No. 4A Supreme Court before Justice Donna Babb-Agard and pleaded guilty to having an AR15 calibre semi-automatic pistol and 30 rounds of .223 ammunition on June 28, 2025.

Acting Principal State Counsel Kevin Forde said police executed a search warrant at an apartment in Accommodation Road, Bush Hall, St Michael. They announced their presence and knocked on the door, but there was no response. However, they could hear movement inside.

They again announced their presence and eventually gained entry, where they saw Sealy and four other men.

During their search of the residence, the officers found the black high-powered weapon with a magazine inserted on top of a ledge above the closet.

When the five men were asked to give an account, Sealy admitted: “That is my gun that I put there.”

Upon checking the firearm, one round of ammunition was found in the chamber, while there were 29 in the magazine. Sealy also admitted ownership of the ammunition.

He was arrested and taken to the District ‘E’ Police Station and, during his electronic interview, declined to answer questions as to where he got the firearm, his purpose for having it, how long he had it, and why he had not turned it in to the police.

Justice Babb-Agard adjourned the case until October 19, when sentencing submissions will be heard.
