The announcement was made by the Barbados Tridents, which succeeds the Royals as franchise holder in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), during the launch of Walk for the Cure 2026 at Sugar Bay Barbados, Hastings on Thursday. The fundraising initiative forms part of the Barbados Tridentsโ home fixture against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, which bowls off at 7 p.m. Explaining the rebranding, Tridentsโ Head of Operations Roxanne Forte said while the team has returned to national colours ultramarine and gold, the commitment to supporting breast cancer awareness remains unchanged. The former Royals adopted pink in its branding. โBecause we are rebranding this year, I thought it appropriate to wear my blue shirt. The reason for pink is empowerment of women, and it is what the Royal Sports Group does. Weโre very into female empowerment, and that was the reason for pink. So weโve gone this year back to blue and yellow, back to the Trident.โ Supporters will still see the team wearing pink during the September 10 encounter as part of the fundraising effort, she said. As a result, weโve partnered with the Barbados Cancer Society to bring the Trident Trust game, and it is something that will happen every year, where we make a donation to the Barbados Cancer Society as well as to our Barbados Royals Girls Cricket Club.โ Forte explained that the initiative replaces the Pink Promise campaign, which has already made a significant impact overseas. โThis year weโre calling it the Trident Trust. In the past it was the Pink Promise, and that has empowered over 15 million families across India.โ She also outlined several activities planned for the match day to encourage fundraising and fan participation. โWe have lots of exciting things. There is a halftime concert. I wouldnโt tell you the stars who would perform at that halftime concert; weโll keep it a secret for now. As well as weโll have things like a silent auction; weโll do bucket collections, and those proceeds will go both to the Cancer Society and to the Barbados Royals Girls Club.โ Forte stressed that breast cancer affects more than just women, noting that the sport has also been touched by the disease. โAs [cancer society breast screening programme coordinator Dr Shirley Jhagroo]โฆ stated in the past, we do have a cricketer, a male cricketer, whoโฆ had breast cancer. Itโs not only a female thing, itโs for everybody. We just need to keep pushing and keep making it known and keep working hard to raise funding for a cure. โWe look forward to everybody coming out on the 10th of September. Letโs make it a big one.โ Lauryn Escamilla You may also like One Family Programme Delivers BackโtoโSchool Relief 22/08/2026 Women march into Pan-Am squash quarter-finals 22/08/2026 Garveyโs son joins PM in rededicating amphitheatre 22/08/2026
