Williams advances to Commonwealth Games 400m final

Barbadian Sada Williams has qualified for the women’s 400 metres final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Running in the second semifinal on Thursday, the defending champion and Games record holder finished second in 51.85 seconds, qualifying fourth fastest overall.

The final is scheduled for Saturday, with Williams, the national record holder and a two-time World Championships bronze medallist, favoured to win Barbados’ first medal of the Games.

In more track and field news from Thursday’s early session, neither Maya Rollins nor Adeyah Brewster advanced past the semis of the 100m hurdles.

Rollins was 10th in the opening semi in 13.36 seconds, while Brewster did not make it to the finish line in semifinal 2.

Desean Boyce also did not finish his 400m semifinal.

Sprinter Kuron Griffith was the lone Barbadian in action during the men’s 200m semis and was eliminated after finishing sixth in 20.66 seconds.
