Crop Over 2026 – Walk Holy Band leads the way on Kadooment Day

Grand Kadooment began with a powerful display of faith, culture, and celebration as the Walk Holy Band took its place as the first band on the road.

For Sean Apache Carter of the Walk Holy Band, being first out was a position the band embraced, choosing to maintain its place at the front of the parade rather than compete for another position.

“Very important,” Carter said when asked about the significance of the decision. “We had the option of competing for pulling position or being first band through, and we opted to remain as the first band through.”

He explained that the decision was also about preserving the band’s identity and avoiding the rivalry that can sometimes surround the road experience.

“We don’t want to get mixed up in the rivalry and the other things that are happening because the band is so distinct and different from the other bands.”

Addressing those who believe the band should not be part of Crop Over, he said: “Everybody’s entitled to an opinion, and that’s just what it is—an opinion. I think Walk Holy is now a significant part of our culture.”

With about 24 years of participation in Crop Over, he added: “Every year when we come on the road and we see the feedback that we get from persons, not only from the band, not only from the worship on the truck, but even from the care packages that we give out, people look forward to it.”

For Carter, Walk Holy Band has become more than just another section of the festival.

“I think it’s a staple in Crop Over. It’s a staple for Grand Kadooment. I just pray that the younger generation will take where we left off.”
