More squash success at CAC Games

The Barbados men’s doubles squash team booked a place in the semifinals at the Central American and Caribbean Games in the Dominican Republic on Thursday.

The latest success follows in the wake of Margot Prow and Meagan Best winning gold and silver respectively, in the women’s individual competition earlier this week.

Playing in Thursday’s quarter-finals, Barbados defeated the British Virgin Islands 3-0.  

Khamal Cumberbatch defeated Joseph Chapman 11-9, 9-11,11-6, 11-4, while Darien Benn cruised past Daniel Henderson 11-8,11-2,11-5. Shawn Simpson completed the clean sweep with an 11-7, 11-8 win over Oliver Henderson.

In table tennis news, Tre Riley and Tyreese Knight were eliminated in the round of 16 of the men’s team competition by their Venezuelan opponents.

The Barbadians were defeated 7-11,9-11, 6-11. 

In karate action Ric Ann Brathwaite narrowly lost her match to Karen Madera of the Dominican Republic senshu, the rule that awards victory to the competitor who scores the first unopposed point in a tied match. 

She was also beaten 8-0 by Colombia’s Wendy Mosquera and 8-1 by Mexico’s Paola Rubio. 

On the track Barbadian Kelia Bentham finished seventh In the final of the women’s 200m. She clocked 23.82 seconds.
