Tropical Storm Laura forms, poses no threat to Barbados- BMS

Tropical Depression #13 is now Tropical Storm Laura.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, the Barbados Meteorological Services, however, said the system poses no threat to Barbados.

The storm was located near 17.0 degrees north, 60.2 degrees west or about 430 miles to the north of Barbados.

Maximum sustained winds are 45 miles-per-hour extending outwards up to 150 miles from the centre. It is moving to the west at 18 miles-per-hour.

The Met Office says official reports from a reconnaissance aircraft, which investigated the system this morning found that the centre of Laura was located slightly south of its previous estimated location.  It noted that although the system appears to be better organized, it still lacks well-defined banding features. Slow strengthening of the system is expected over the next 48 hours.

The forecasters say the system will move west-northwestward across the northern Leeward Islands and based on its current track this system will continue to track well north of Barbados today.

The Met Office says as the system moves towards the west, trailing moisture and instability is likely to bring occasional light to moderate shower activity and a chance of isolated thunderstorms to the island tonight.
