From as early as 7:30 p.m. persons entered the eclectic restaurant where they were greeted with a complimentary welcome cocktail sponsored by Plantation Rum. The event which was hosted by Danielle Gibson and Sabrina Lee of Alpha Media and Productions (AMP), sought to highlight Chrissy D’s achievements as she was immortalized in a mural at her alma mater Graydon Sealy Secondary School, as well as her placement in the NCF’s People’s Choice Competition. Chrissy D said that she was elated with the overwhelming response that she received and that it was heartwarming to know that so many persons both from Barbados and internationally loved and appreciated her music. “Tonight, just shows me that the work that I am doing is not in vain. To know that so many persons braved the inclement weather to come out and support me in my journey thus far means a lot to me. This year is my tenth anniversary as a soca artiste and I am happy that not only do I have a mural in my honour but that my song is resonating with persons,” she said. Chrissy D performed some of her hit songs Tek Time, Wuk Me, Next Year and Carnival Story. She also performed alongside the artiste Da Silva, their song ‘Freedom at Last’, which was nominated in the NCF’s Top 40 People’s Choice Competition. When I wrote the song, I thought about the past two years and how we did not have a Crop Over and it had me in my feelings – no lie. So, the song speaks about how Crop Over left all of us and now it is back without any apology, but we shall love Crop Over the same,” she said. Gibson and Lee who are both social media strategists hosted the event to enhance the artiste’s brand and connect people with her music. “The event was a success! We had a fantastic turn out with well-known DJs, local artistes and supporters of soca music. We are excited to highlight great brands and businesses through social media marketing and events so stay tuned,” they said.
