PM announces plan to tackle water crisis

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has announced a major initiative to help Barbados tackle its prolonged water crisis.

She said a water academy will be established at the Barbados Community College (BCC) in the near future to play a significant role in changing the habits of Barbadians towards water conservation and offer technical assistance to professionals in the sector.

Mottley made the announcement at the opening of the two-day Caribbean Water Conference at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre on Wednesday morning.

The conference seeks to raise regional awareness about issues plaguing the Caribbean’s water sector. It is being executed with the goal of accelerating action on water sector resilience in the face of the impacts of multiple hazards, including climate change.

Prime Minister Mottley also stressed the need for partnership between local, regional and international stakeholders to come up with innovative ideas to resolve the water issues Barbados and other islands face. (AH)
