Green eyes future success following World Championship bronze

US based sprinter Jayden Green returned to island on Tuesday night following his bronze medal winning performance in the 200m, during the World Junior Championships in Oregon.

The Barbadian team emerged from the arrivals hall just before midnight, to a warm welcome from supporters and members of the Athletic Association of Barbados.

Green was pleased with his efforts, but is looking forward to getting some rest during the off season.

“It’s a good feeling to bring home another medal for my country on the world stage and to be one of the best Under-20 boys in the world,” he said.

Earlier in the season Green admitted to being unhappy with his times at the CARIFTA Games in Grenada and the Barbados Grand Prix, but credits sticking to the process for his success in Oregon.

“It came down to consistency and being able to execute the race well. The time still was not as fast as I would have wanted but at the end of the day, it’s the medal that counts.

“I knew further down in the season there would have been other opportunities to get a medal,” he added.

Reflecting further on his performance, Green described the medal as a stepping stone adding that he was confident he could do better.

Speaking candidly about the final, Green said the race was far from straight forward.

“I was a bit nervous running those guys, but I mean they are normal human beings too, still I was nervous man, I just tried to block out nerves and stuff like that and just try to focus on executing my race and listening to my coaches. It was a great feeling being the only Caribbean competitor in the race winning a medal,” he explained.
