Police and army on high alert

Persons bent on engaging in nefarious activities while officials seek to restore power across the country following the passage of Hurricane Elsa have been put on notice.

Senior Superintendent of Police John Maxwell made it clear that the nation’s combined forces – the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) and the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) – will be out in numbers throughout the night to ensure that law and order are maintained as the country is returned to normalcy.

“I want to assure you that the Royal Barbados Police Force is on duty and its members will continue to serve you in an effort to keep the country safe.

“We recognize that at this time, particularly so when the power is not on and we are moving into the hours of dark, that it would be required of us to make that extra effort to ensure that any possible nefarious activity that might be contemplated by those who may be of such mind or ilk that we are able to thwart that.

“I can assure you that the members of the Royal Barbados Police Force will continue to be out in their numbers to keep the country safe. So you can rest assured that we are on the job [doing what] we have always been doing and doing best . . . . With the assistance of members of the Barbados Defence Force we will be out protecting you,” the senior policeman said earlier today after the “all clear” had been given by disaster officials.

He also urged members of the public to remain indoors and off the streets as much as possible as officials try to get essential services back on stream.
