Members of the public are reminded that the ban on single use petro-based plastic bags will come into effect from Wednesday, January 1, 2020.
Wholesalers, retailers, supermarkets and those who use plastic bags in the operation of their businesses are therefore urged to seek out alternative products before the ban takes effect.
Those who contravene the regulations could face stiff penalties. (JRB/BGIS)

The idea of banning supermarket plastic bags is a gimmick!
In Trinidad & Tobago – It’s used by companies like PriceSmart and Massy to FOOL the people into thinking they’re doing something for the environment. Just a copying of other companies.
How much plastic by weight do one of these bags actually weigh versus a plastic bottle?
In fact a plastic bottle is probably about 50 times more plastic.
What about the other massive plastic use in supermarkets including styrofoam?
Let’s not be duped by corporate greed. I’m sure Massy and Pricesmart laugh at the people and also how much MONEY they’re SAVING monthly on bags – a savings not passed on to you!
