Persons who have been ordered to self-quarantine in their homes but fail to do so are guilty of an offence under the Health Services (Communicable and Notifiable Diseases) Regulations.

Under the law, the Chief Medical Officer can authorize a Medical Officer of Health to isolate any person suffering from an infectious disease, such as the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.

Persons who may have been exposed to COVID-19 can be placed under surveillance and confined to their place of residence for self-quarantine.

Failure to comply may result in the offender being placed in mandatory quarantine at a health facility. Disobeying can also result in a maximum fine of $5000.00, or imprisonment of up to 12 months or both.  (BGIS)
