The Barbados Water Authority wishes to advise residents and businesses in parts of St Michael and Christ Church, that this morning, it was revealed that the Reservoir at Fort George is currently empty.
Investigations are underway to determine the cause.
The areas affected by this problem may include:
In St Michael: Wildey, Pine, Collymore Rock, Flag Staff, Bonnetts, Brittons, Forde’s Road, and surrounding areas.
In Christ Church: Vauxhall, Sargeant’s Village, Fort George Heights, Upton, Clapham, Regency Park, St David’s, Sheraton Park, Elizabeth Park, South Ridge, Graeme Hall and surrounding areas.
Customers in these areas who have a pipe-borne supply at present are asked to store an adequate supply of water for their household needs today as they may experience outages as the day progresses.

Discovered? As in that there is no one currently assigned to checkeach reservoir daily and make a report?
This is the dry season for crying out loud
Aren’t water levels at reservoirs checked twice daily?
Its amazing all the talk about water woes being a thing of the past..what has happened ? Have the political chemists failed or lost the formula for fusing hydrogen and oxygen to
make water?
They need to swallow their pride and build the desalination plants to supply potable water and use some of the underground water for agriculture..
Political arrogance..has no place in a modern society.
The Government’s infrastructural investment MUST include upgrades to our water supply infrastructure which has been neglected for decades.
In 1997 whilst helping my Mother at work after her operation I learned that her employer had rented premises in Hastings to a special internationally funded study of our water supply headed by Mr. Mwansa.
The report that concluded B’dos was a water scarce country was handed to Gov’t in 2002/03. Nothing was done despite at the time despite the huge VAT receipts available to invest.
It is now past ESSENTIAL that desalination plants be considered and construction begins. Our Water and Food security are at stake. Without Water and basic foods humans cannot live.
The first priority of the Jobs & Investment Council MUST be the WATER supply, which will help us with increased food production.
The best soil for growing vegetables & fruit to improve the health of our people is located in St. John, St. George and St. Joseph – the water scarce parishes. This issue needs to be addressed asap.
Local production of vegetables will reduce the foreign exchange needed to import what we can grow locally. This will also provide jobs.
The long term cost of continuing to ignore the basic health needs of the population will be immeasurably higher than the investment needed to adequately supply the island with water.
A desalination plant is far more urgent than new highways and towering hotel and condominium blocks.
