Pastor John Yarde believes that, “We could have fun and we can still worship God too.”
The gospel artiste was the latest featured performer of EKCO Nation’s Chilled Vibez online series. In the engaging session Saturday night, he showed viewers exactly how that was possible with an inspirational, dynamic performance.
Before the local gospel singer started his live segment, there was a countdown of the top five favourite songs from his fans. Among them were powerful worship songs, Release the Soundz, with its pulsating bass line and All Hail the King. Also in the running were Betta, which was the featured music video for the night, and Count Ya Blessings. The ever-popular Friends and Family took the top spot.
Fans were treated to live renditions of some of their favourites. The pastor ministered in song and poured his heart and soul into the performance.
The artiste is currently working on his sophomore album, My Everything. His final selection was the yet to be released Best Thing Ever, one of the songs from his upcoming compilation. This song is very close to his heart and was given special treatment. Though he had remained seated throughout the performance, he was so moved by the message of this offering that he jumped to his feet to energetically deliver the chorus: “Jesus is the best thing ever!” In the closing strains of the new song, he merged the lyrics fittingly with Love Lifted Me.
John’s excitement was contagious and eager fans queried the planned release date for the new track. He revealed that it was already available through iTunes and promised that it would be available for streaming with an accompanying video through Digicel’s D’Music app.
In a candid moment after his performance, the radio announcer asserted that the time has come for us to support our own and sing our own songs at church. “I believe that there is a unique sound in the Caribbean and Barbados that we need to embrace.”
Organiser Arnal Gozzy Goslin always has something special in store and this week was no different. In the music video segment, there was the premiere of local singer Phillip K’s Dark Side. Trinidadian Jahzy’s Jesus Never Leave I is another new jam that was dropped in that session.
DJ Carlos closed out the Pure Vibez session with a string of upbeat tracks, entertaining those who lingered well after the main act was finished. (STT)
