A 49-year-old man, accused of committing an act of serious indecency towards a little girl, is now on remand at Dodds prison.

The accused who goes solely by the name Mankad and who lives in a St Michael district appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick this morning. His next appearance at the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court is July 23.

Mankad who is charged with committing the offence on the nine-year-old on June 24 was not required to plead to the indictable charge, resulting in prosecutor Victoria Taitt objecting to his bail.

The officer grounded her arguments on the nature and seriousness of the charge as well as the “tender age” of the complainant involved. She pointed out that the two live in close proximity and there was a need to protect the child as well as the accused.

The prosecutor further argued that Mankad should not be given bail at this time as he already had another case pending before the court of a similar nature for which he is on $10,000 bail.

The accused was remanded.
