Barbados’ first and only Kiwanis cyber club, Kiwanis Club of Pride Online Barbados, recently celebrated its 5th Charter Anniversary and had a week of activities to commemorate the occasion. As a cyber club, the members do not have face-to-face meetings. The club’s meetings are held monthly via WhatsApp.

The club’s theme this year is “Growing Together While Making a Difference” and President Gabrielle Galuschka has indicated that the club continues to live by this theme through making an impact on the lives of persons in the community. Club members donated items to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Children’s Ward and to a day nursery.

A major highlight of the week of activities was the launch of the club’s Anniversary Project, Green Thumbs, which is the brainchild of Secretary-designate Jamon Edwards. He stated, “The project seeks to promote, educate and create awareness on how essential it is to start growing one’s own food or having a garden. In addition, we hope to encourage, motivate and sensitize the children and general public with tips and tricks on growing their food.”

The Anniversary Project has already been mobilised and seedlings have been donated to families. An Instagram page has also been launched (https://www.instagram.com/greenthumbs_246) where persons can follow the project and obtain gardening advice.

Other highlights of the week included a virtual interclub meeting with guest presenter, podiatrist Ms Amor Forde. Members of the sister Kiwanis Clubs of Barbados attended this very important and educational meeting. There was also a food drive, where members of Pride Online Barbados donated various items to families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The food drive will continue for three months and ends in August 2020.

President Gabrielle is confident that the club will continue to grow, as the goal of five new members in the 2019 – 2020 year was achieved within four months. She further added, “Our members are the heartbeat of our club. Through working as a team, we can achieve our goals and continue to make a difference”.

The club has a presence on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Kiwanisprideonline) and on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/kiwanisprideonline) where persons can view information about the club. (PR)
